Car rental UK – some driving tips

Visiting the UK? Depending on where you’re based for your stay, you have an amazing variety of scenery to explore.

For such a comparatively small island there are large differences in the scenery, from the valleys and mountains of Wales and Scotland, to the rolling farmlands of the south west and the flat fenlands of the east.

Around the London area you have not only the ancient buildings and market places but more rolling farmlands and wooded tracts of historic forests.

Drive north east of London and you reach the fens and flat landscapes of East Anglia with its beaches and many churches.

If on the other hand you drive south you can visit not only more beaches but the regency town of Brighton, where the Brighton pavilion is always worth a visit. Brighton boasts many restaurants and generally has an ‘arty’ feel to it.

You can easily reach Dover, home of the Channel Tunnel. If you want to try it out and make a quick visit to France, the actual trip is only about 30 minutes. However there are two things to remember, the first is that whilst the trip itself may only take 30 minutes, there can be a considerable wait prior to boarding the train, depending on the time of day and the time of year.

The second is that if you are in a hire car, you are not allowed to take it to France unless you have specifically arranged to do this when either booking the car or when you pick the car up at the rental office. If you don’t do this, your insurance will be void and, if you have an accident whilst in France you will be liable for the whole of the cost of repair/replacement as well as getting the car back to the UK.
