The city of Gerona (in Spanish, Girona in Catalan) is in the northeast of Spain on the Costa Brava, near the French border. It’s a walled city which dates back to Roman times.

The province of Gerona is spectacular. The interior part of the province is made up of quiet mountain villages whilst the coast, the Costa Brava, is breathtaking. Dotted with small coves and natural beaches surrounded by rocky mountains covered by pine trees. The area is very popular with tourists, many of whom are from Barcelona and own holiday homes in this beautiful part of Spain.

The area abounds with small, pretty fishing villages where you can relax quietly and eat extremely well! (skiing is a popular pastime in winter).

Gerona is a also great starting out point for much of the southern regions of France and since it is served by some of the cut price airlines (and the, generally, cheaper Spanish car hire companies) you can often make significant savings.

Barcelona is only about an hour’s drive so take the opportunity to visit this fabulous northern Spanish city.
